Spring is definitely here

Well, the snow is melting, the rain is falling, the grass is growing, and the earth is MUDDY! Heidi thinks she's died and gone to heaven. Last year things were horribly messy because we had a huge hole in our property where the previous owner had excavated; it would fill up like a swimming pool and Heidi would splash around and chase frogs for hours, bringing wet and mud and stink into the house several times a day. We filled it up last summer and we thought our troubles were over. Turns out that Heidi is not at a loss for getting filthy. She discovered that an inch below our precious new-grown grass is a muddy mecca. So much for our dreams of having a lawn.

Notice the muddy feet, belly, and tongue (above), and the "what? what did I do?" look (below).

And Bea, Heidi's little sidekick, plays along as always and cheerfully endures the mud flying in her face from Heidi's digging.

I love Heidi's face, she is so expressive!

But I really, really want to wipe the mud off her tongue and give her a big drink of water. Just looking at that is making my mouth feel strangely gritty...
