What's a mother to do?

These two... it's like raising a couple of brats sometimes. No matter what methods we use to try to train them, they insist on doing things their way. Take our dinner table for example (yes, it's small, everything in our tiny one-room house is small). It's one of their favourite places to be. You'd think a nice comfy couch or doggy bed would win out, but no, it's this little table, barely big enough for the sleeping bodies of two chunky pugs, the one spot in the house that earns them a firm "NO" when they're on it. All we can do to stop them is flip over the chairs, but that gets to be troublesome when you're home and need those chairs all the time. It's flipping annoying.
.
I don't know where they get their stubbornness from. Certainly not from me. But we've tried everything - "NO" and "OFF" commands, training with treats (they know the "take it" command now, but have no respect for the "OFF" command in any other application). The bitter apple spray on slippers - Bea hardly even notices. Even the vinegar water mist spray - Bea just wants to lick the spout. Holding her on her back until she calms down - Bea loves lying on her back. Time-outs outside - great opportunity to chew sticks and go digging in the sand around the house.
.
Sigh. There is no punishing a pug. All they know is how to be happy.
